Damaged hair
leads client to get hair extensions
Nicole Youngblood is a
well known Dallas photographer who had the unfortunate experience of
having her hair break after a chemical straightening service.
Nicole's hair was damaged from
chemical straightening.

Her hair was so damaged
from the chemicals that her hair started breaking off in the crown
area and didn’t stop all the way up to her bangs.
The first time I saw
Nicole was when she came in for a hair extension consultation 6
months after her hair started breaking off from a chemical
straightening service. She explained to me that her hair was broken
off so short that she had to wear a hat from one week after the
service up until the point she sat in my chair.
When I examined her hair
the entire section above her ears had broken off was about 2 to 3
inches long. It honestly looked as though someone had given her a
semi-mullet. There were only a few sparse strands of hair that were
not broken from the chemicals.
These few hairs were
also straight, unlike the naturally curly hair that was growing in
were the hair had broken off. You could tell that Nicole was
extremely concerned about doing any kind of service that would
possibly damage her hair, but she wasn’t willing to cut her hair to
the length of the broken hair.
This is a woman with a
successful photography business who has to interact face to face
with clients on a daily basis, and her own appearance was an
important part of her job. Of course she didn’t want to cut all of
her hair off!
After talking with
Nicole in her consultation we decided to move forward with hair
extensions to blend her short broken hair in with her long hair in
the back until her hair was able to grow out.
Since these extensions
were going to be applied to the top section
of
her hair we used a much smaller bonding than a normal client would
use. We also decided that Nicole would get curly extensions to blend
in with her own natural curls. This was achieved by perming the
extensions before Nicole came in.
Even though Nicole
always had the option to blow dry her extensions straight, she
needed the ability to wear her hair natural on the days she didn’t
have time to style it straight. After we applied the extensions
Nicole was finally relieved from her chemical haircut.
The extensions concealed
the broken hair, and added body and thickness to her own hair.”
Nicole's
Comments:
“I was finally able to
continue on with my life and feel good about the way I looked. Two
years later my hair is at a length that I can wear it any style,
straight or curly, and not worry about people noticing the chemical
damage. Gia saved me from one of the worst experiences I have ever
gone through with my hair.”
